7 Everyday Tips to Trim Away Belly Fat

In weight loss and fitness, one of the hardest things to get rid of is belly fat – the No. 1 impediment to that flat stomach or 6-pack abs you've dreamed of having.

Unfortunately, there's no such thing as 'spot reducing', so focusing solely on crunches won't do much. However, you can take certain steps each day to make it easier for you to flatten that belly. From visualising the pounds dropping – a trick used in hypnotherapy for weight loss – to staying hydrated, here are a few examples of those little things that really add up.

1. Keep moving. Short bursts of exercise work better than one long session of sweating it out. Instead of 200 or so crunches each night, say, try exercises that engage multiple muscle groups, such as the plank. Getting up from your seat to take short walks also helps.

2. Eat a rainbow. Add more colour to your plate besides different shades of brown (meat), and you'll be on your way to losing fat. Tomatoes, peppers, and carrots are examples of healthy choices that are brilliantly-coloured.

3. Nix the soda. It keeps you hydrated, but only for a short while – but the fat you get from it sticks around for a very long time. The 'light' or 'diet' versions are worse, since they contain alternative sweeteners, many of which go straight to your waistline or hips.

4. Eat fat to burn fat. It's actually sugar that makes you fatty, not the good fat you find in foods like avocados, walnuts, and salmon. They contain Omega 3 fatty acids and several other nutrients that will keep you feeling full throughout the day.

5. Stay hydrated. Bring along sports bottle filled with water and take the occasional sip. This helps keep cravings under control so you're less likely to wolf down your food.

6. Snooze away. When your bio-clock is off, you actually end up eating more, and the best way to make sure that clock isn't out of whack is to get enough sleep each night. Most adults need about 7 hours of sleep.

7. Visualise. One tip on how to get slim quickly Adelaide, or at least in less time than you'd think it would take, is to picture yourself being thinner, if not already at your goal weight. Seeing a slimmer you in better-fitting clothes is a good motivation-booster.
